Wedding Planning #1

Right after he proposed, we went for venue hunting as our family were already urging us to get the venue booked. In Malaysia or at least Penang, popular places are already being booked a year or even more than a year before the wedding itself.

True enough, the next day after he proposed, we went to one of the few restaurants that we have shortlisted to enquire and the date we wanted was already taken. HORROR! It was 1 year and 2 months before the date we want!

So we asked for alternative dates and was planning to settle for the week after. Then we decided to just go and survey others to see if there's anywhere else that we like that is available on the date we want. Now we are both Christians and we don't go to fortune teller whatsoever to get a date. We chose the date solely for the significance of it. So we were quite okay to just change if there is a need to.

After surveying, we either do not like the interior/vibe that we get there or we don't like that they open up the area for walk-in customer if we do not fill the hall. We are not being selfish since we will probably need only 30 tables and we can't expect them to not serve other customers if there were but we did not like the idea. So these were also out of the question.

I really don't like this cina feel with everything red.

Now back to the first one that we saw, of all the places we have seen, it is the best since it has gold and white theme. So we were quite fixed on this one. However, we did not book the place as the menu wasn't out yet and we were not sure of the updated price. Thank God we did not cause the price increased by about RM150 for next year. It completely busted our budget as the sole reason we chose restaurant over hotel is because it is cheaper.

Now with that news in, we had to scramble around and look for new place again. So we went to look for other restaurants we did not visited ie Ming Palace and Stonebay. The fiancé said no to Ming Palace because ours will be a small banquet so our guests will have to walk past another wedding, a much bigger and grander than ours before coming to ours. Also because the stage was blocked. Although the price is attractive, we had to say no. Stonebay on the other hand will host about 3-4 weddings in a place and I wasn't really keen on it.

Finally, I talked to the fiancé about Vistana Hotel. If we are to spend so much, why not spend a little bit more and make it convenient and comfortable for all? His family and relatives can stay at the hotel since they are from outstation and everyone can get ready for the banquet in the room. So after considering the convenience we can get, we have finally decided on our venue!

Such big changes but through it all, it was a very exciting experience and I am glad I am going through it with my fiancé. Whatever different opinions we had, we sat down and talked it out.

Now venue is done for but there are tonnes of other things not! So will keep on updating as we go on.

He asked

And I said yes.

Now that the ring is on my finger, it felt like nothing else matters. There's no need to compare or compete, cause the person I want to spend the rest of my life with is with me. All those childish competition of wanting to have it bigger and better than others no longer matters to me.

In fact right now, all I want is to build a beautiful home for our little family.

Not what it seems

My boyfriend just texted me to let me know that he is bringing me out for movies tonight. Yay right? For any other normal girl, it's always fun to hang out with the boyfriend, even if it means watching shows that you do not like.

However, the one question that he got back from me after I replied, "OK!" was "which seat did you buy? Are there many people?" Now you may think I am not a good girlfriend but I have my reasons.

You see, I suffer from anxiety disorders. I find it difficult to sit in a room where I cannot easily leave the room whenever I like. I can get anxiety attacks and it is important for me to be able to leave the room easily (don't ask me why I am a lecturer who has to lecture 100-200 students sometimes). Anyway, that is not something you can get in the cinema especially you are seated in the middle where there are people on your left and right.

The boyfriend loves movies and I have this problem even before I met him and has vastly improved from my condition. As a movie lover, he loves sitting in the middle cause that's the best view. With recent anxiety attacks I have in the cinema, lately, I am not comfortable sitting in the middle. Hence the question.

I have a feeling it is right in the middle (like it always is). =.=" And he is getting questioned by me and calmly answering all my questions. People always say that I look calm and collected but only the boyfriend knows how difficult it is. =P It's not easy but we take one day at a time.

About Me

I am typing this with Zhang Yun Jing's songs are playing on Spotify on the background on a gloomy day. It took me so long before I decided to sit down once and for all to write about myself in this blog.

I have been blogging for a long time. In fact my first blog was in 2006. Then after I graduated in 2010, I stopped writing as much because life has become less interesting I suppose. Or was it because I am much older now that what I am interested in has changed and I didn't find myself connected to the younger me.

Anyway, then I started this blog with the sole reason that I need to move on (again) into a platform where I can talk about my family, my future home and all the adult things that my other blog cannot capture. I couldn't write these there as I realised the name I used was not suitable. So people....it is important to sit down and really think of a blog name. Take it as naming your own child. You wouldn't want to name her something you will regret one day.

Also I see this blog as an extension to my life even after marriage and my own family. So it is even more important cause I do not want to caught having a blog name 'ahbu74' when I turn 50 (if you don't know yet, it was my first ever blog).

I am the girl in red, and the boy beside me is my boyfriend. I am 26 this year and I teach for a living. I enjoy meeting people although I am an introvert until I know you. I try my best to talk to people. I dislike speaking in a crowd (don't ask me why I am a lecturer). I enjoy cooking and trying out new recipes especially with my Thermomix. I also enjoy reading blogs, listening to music on Spotify, watching Runningman with my boyfriend and just laze around. I read a lot of home organising blogs which inspire me to one day share what I will do with my own house. I currently stay with my parents and hope to own my own house in 2017.

This is it

We have finally placed our booking for a unit and the project is scheduled to complete in 2017.

Our unit is 1100 sq ft and I am so thankful for this house as we were about to settle for a house that is old and much smaller. With this project only ready in 2017 and us moving in 2018, much will only be discussed or shared here somewhere around those time. We, however, have a lot of things going on in our lives with one most important thing which is starting a family together. Hence this blog will capture first snippets of our lives and our journey to become one.

This blog will hopefully grow with us as we grow with one another. Anyway, one thing down, 1000 more to come.

I officially declare that our chapter of "House Hunting" has ENDED.

The Hunt for Dream Home begins

My boyfriend and I have been discussing about settling down and one of our main concern is a house. He is from another state and has decided to settle down where I am. Hence, it is important that we find one that is suitable for us to build our family.

For us, it is important to have our own place and not just renting it. So we have been scouting for a place since mid last year. We have seen numerous houses in various areas. None caught our attention as they are pricey and yet rundown. The ones which are new and nice are all over our budget.

We then moved our attention to a new project, one that will only be completed in 2017 but is priced almost the same as a 10 year old building we saw. There are just a few more details that we need to discuss which will happen in about two weeks.

All we can do now is hope and pray. This blog will not only records the transformation of our houses (shared, rented or bought) but also records us and our little family in the future. =)
